New Artist Jackie Beardstrom
Jackie Beardstrom is an emerging artist, lifelong poet, and transplant to the Yakima Valley since 2011. Raised by a creek in the rolling hills of northern Delaware, she is a stan for our deep interconnection with the natural world, the sacredness of our psychological wounds, and our power to heal in community.
Her work explores the complicated relationship between our shadows and our hope and is influenced by her own experience of childhood emotional abuse and neglect; her experience as a mother; her participation and apprenticeship in community grief ritual and matriarchal, earth-based spirituality; and her deep love of nature and its complicated beauty.
In her first exhibit, “Grief and Other Gifts”, Jackie’s work weaves together affirmations, limiting beliefs, color, ink, nature imagery, abstract forms, neurographic lines, and runny paint cascading down the paper like teardrops. Each piece is created through a process of transformation – some more intellectual and some more expressive – that ultimately aims to find hope and resolve within the tumult and heartbreak of these unprecedented times.
